Keep this guide open while you set up your block. You can prepare the app before your delivery arrives; NFC pairing needs the physical block.
You need an NFC-capable iPhone, iOS 17.6 or later, the Foqos app and your block. This guide does not cover Android. Foqos is free and independently developed; optional tips support its developer. Our hardware is not made by Foqos or Brick.
1. Install the right app.
Open Foqos — Tap to Block in the App Store. Check the app’s current compatibility details, install it and open it. You do not need to purchase an app subscription from Snuggro.
2. Allow Screen Time access.
Follow Foqos’s permission prompts so it can use Apple’s Screen Time controls. Read each prompt and complete the approval on your own phone. Without permission, Foqos cannot apply the selected restrictions.
3. Create a small first profile.
Create a profile for one purpose, such as reading or work. Choose one non-essential app for your first test. Leave communication, navigation and any essential services out of the test block list.
4. Register your bamboo block.
In the profile’s blocking strategy or NFC settings, choose an NFC-based method and follow its registration prompt. Hold the top of your unlocked iPhone close to the block until the app confirms a scan. Give the tag a recognisable name if prompted.
Menu labels can change with app updates. Follow the on-screen steps in your installed Foqos version. Register each physical block you intend to use; owning two blocks does not automatically pair both.
5. Choose how a session ends.
Read the description of the strategy you select. If you want a physical boundary, choose a strategy that requires NFC to end the session. Other strategies may allow manual endings or timed breaks. Do not assume every mode behaves the same way.
6. Run a short test before relying on it.
- Keep your block nearby and start the profile using its selected activation method.
- Open the non-essential app you selected. Check that the restriction appears.
- End the session using the method described in that profile. For an NFC-required ending, scan your registered block when Foqos requests it.
- Reopen the test app and confirm access is restored.
Only then expand your block list. Keep the block somewhere you can retrieve it. This is a focus tool, not an emergency-access or security guarantee.
7. Give the block a consistent home.
Choose a place away from where you normally scroll. Before a work session or time together, make one deliberate decision about what deserves your attention. Start modestly and adjust your routine after using it.
If something does not work
The block will not scan.
Unlock your phone, open the NFC scan prompt in Foqos and try moving the top edge slowly across the block. Remove a thick or metal-containing case and move away from metal surfaces. If it still does not scan, stop and contact Snuggro with your order number, iPhone model, iOS version and what happened.
The chosen app is still available.
Check that you activated the intended profile, selected that app and granted Screen Time access. Follow Foqos’s current support guidance. Do not start a longer session until your small test works.
The app picker freezes.
Close and reopen Foqos and check for app and iOS updates. Foqos documents a system-level issue with the app picker. See its current support page for updates.
I need help ending a session.
Use the ending method of your active strategy and the registered NFC block. For app recovery advice, consult Foqos support. Do not delete the app or change restrictions without first reading the current guidance.
